The city of Katy and the Katy Development Authority, is in negotiations to buy 46 acres of land on the South side of Katy Mills Mall to build a boardwalk and convention center. They plan to use METRO and Hotel Occupancy Taxes to build the convention center and hope to attract a hotel and several restaurants to the site. The hotel and convention center would complement an adjacent 80-acre wetland, and will have a 2-mile boardwalk with jogging trail and an observation deck.Work on the boardwalk will begin this summer and work on the convention center will begin later.
